Established in 2008, Rodgers Music offers musical services across South-East Essex: from tuition of the piano and flute, to accompaniment for examinations and choirs; from choral/musical theatre directorships to freelance organist work.

Piano Tuition

The methodologies of teaching the piano have been tried and tested in many different ways over many centuries. Tom's methods incorporate practical music theory, with the addition of composition when possible, as well as more traditional teaching publications.
The musical aim of Rodgers Music is to have its students enjoy playing a wide variety of different musical styles. This doesn't mean that exams are the most important aspect of Rodgers Music Tuition.

Having said that, Tom teaches (for the most part) the Associated Board Examination syllabus including the Jazz Piano syllabus and their new Performance Exam.   Tom is also diversifying and exploring the Music Teachers' Board and 

Tom's students range from 7yrs old to over 70yrs young! He caters for all ages, all standards and abilities. The goal is enable access to creating music on the instrument and for the student to enjoy both challenge and success!

Flute Tuition

The flute is a tricky instrument to get the hang of, to begin with, because (as with any woodwind instrument) achieving a good embouchure is essential.

Tom uses published beginner books for the starter and moves onto the Associated Board, or similiar, syllabus for the grade examinations, as the flautist progresses in ability and skill.
For flautists who have been playing for a while the focus is on improving technical aspects such as embouchure, breathing, tonguing and expression; all of which help improve musicality and quality of performance.

Music Theory

Music Theory is the "grammar" of music and an important aspect of learning any instrument to a high standard.
​Rodgers Music offers an online and face-to-face course which takes the beginner through Grades 1, 2 and 3 (June 2020).
